A Store in a High-Return Industry

Fashion, footwear, gadgets, and small electronics return by nature. RetJet handles that volume in one list and shows what's coming back and why.

A Store in a High-Return Industry

In some categories, a return isn’t a mistake, it’s part of the sales model. A customer orders two sizes to keep one. They buy a gadget that turns out to be smaller or louder than it looked in the photo. These aren’t situations to eliminate, only to handle without drowning the team in them.

Two industries, two different patterns

Clothing and footwear. Returns are frequent and come back fast, usually because of size or fit. The item is usually resellable, so speed matters: the sooner the package is back in stock, the sooner it sells again.

Gadgets and small consumer electronics. Volume tends to be lower, but the cases are heavier. Alongside 14-day returns come warranty claims: the device doesn’t work, it stopped working after a month, it doesn’t match the description. A case like that drags on longer, needs a contact history, and sometimes also an assessment of whether it’s still within warranty.

There’s one common denominator: at this volume, a process kept in emails and a spreadsheet stops working before the team even notices it has.

What the problem is

There are so many requests that nobody remembers them off the top of their head. A customer asks “what’s happening with my return”, and the answer needs checking in three places: whether the request came in, whether the package is on its way, whether the warehouse has received it.

At high volume, a second thing also becomes visible: cases don’t get stuck evenly. Some requests move through the process in a few days, while others sit in the same state for weeks because nobody noticed they were waiting. Without a single list of statuses, you simply can’t see it.

How this looks in RetJet

The customer submits the case through the form and immediately gets instructions on how and where to send the package. They don’t have to write in asking what comes next, because the next step is part of the request.

You work from a single list showing the status of every case and every shipment: whether it’s on its way or has already arrived. Once the item is received, you close the case with a refund or an exchange.

In RetJet, returns and warranty claims are separate request types, each with its own deadline set per sales channel. That means the 14-day right of withdrawal and the much longer warranty period don’t have to be squeezed into a single process, which matters for electronics from the very first month of sales.

You see what’s coming back and why

Every request carries a reason, and the analytics dashboard collects them into reports: the breakdown of request reasons, the products and SKUs they involve most often, and the split between returns and warranty claims and between sales channels.

This is raw material for your own decisions about your offer, not a promise that there will be fewer returns. If one shoe model comes back twice as often as the rest of the range, and size keeps showing up as the reason, you have concrete information and decide for yourself what to do with it. Without a report like this, that knowledge stays scattered across individual requests that nobody pulls together.

What changes in day-to-day work

Handling keeps up with volume. Cases follow one path, so handling a hundred requests doesn’t mean a hundred individual arrangements.

Fewer questions from customers. A clear process and a visible status cut off most “has it arrived” messages.

Backlogs are visible before they grow. Requests stuck in the same state too long show up on the list, not only in a customer complaint.

Stock goes back on sale faster. The package is linked to the request before it arrives, so warehouse receiving doesn’t start with figuring out whose shipment it is.
